How has the field of nail beauty changed in the recent past?
As a THUYA Advisor, I travel to many countries with established cultures of artificial nail use. This has led me to realize that demand is lagging for this product in Spain, both from professionals and customers. There are, however, new designs and different artistic trends emerging all the time (without forgetting the traditional French manicure). All Thuya Advisors are trained in and informed about the leading global techniques and products in order to continually improve.
How can a Nail Professional offer a differentiated service?
Essentially, we can offer outstanding service through high quality services (quality products+ speedy application) and customization (wide product variety and creativity in order to fit every customer’s needs). In addition, professionals must stay up to date; they must be aware of the latest sculpting and decoration techniques and the most innovative products on the market.
Where do you see the sector going? What changes are on the horizon?
We are going to see more and more creativity, both in terms of shapes and decorative options. In regards to nail sculpting, we will see more daring shapes, such as “stiletto” (pointed nails) or “the Edge” nails (with an inverted V bend). Examples of up and coming decorations, expect to see extreme encrustations, stained glass inspirations…
Tips for beginners and veteran professionals
My advice to a Junior Professional would be to maintain their dedication and patience because the final result is highly rewarding, even though initially the work can seem complicated and meticulous. To the veteran professional my advice would be to never stop learning about new products and techniques and to always provide specialized customer service.
What distinguishes THUYA from other brands?
What distinguishes THUYA from our competitors is our wide variety of products and their high quality. Moreover, because we are aware that our customers have made our brand one of the world leaders in our market, THUYA remains a client- focused company.
International Technical Adviser, Nail Specialist
As a professional nail technician, what do you request to nail art brand?
Within the nail art world, creativity and innovation are two of the main elements to ensure the success of a decorated nail. A well known nail art brand must provide therefore a wide range of products, a variety of acrylic colors, different textures, embedded nail art elements…
What do you think about the nail care field development in Spain and worldwide?
Even though the international overall evolution is very fast, Spanish market seems to have a slower growth compared to other countries.
Nail art culture is not so popular in Spain. This area is not considered by customers as a complement to the other details of the overall image, but only as an extra. However, there is a rising demand evidenced by an increasingly number of salons providing nail care services as well as specialized salons, which are exclusively oriented to supply them.
Professionals should play an important role encouraging their customers to try these nail decoration services. In the recent past years we noticed an international sculpting nails boom, specially regarding nails decoration. It is amazing to travel and get to know how this service is seen by customers as an essential part of their image.
What can you say about the academic standards?
Fortunately there is a rising demand of professional courses to become a nail technician. Students demand a solid, versatile and completed education. This is the way to become competitive specialist and to offer unique services, which is actually the real key to success nowadays.
THUYA is a well known school in Spain and offers specialized courses based on decoration and nail sculpture.
What can a professional do to be always up to date in this fast growing area?
You must keep your eyes open and research. It is also a must to attend conferences, reading specialized magazines, researching and innovating. It is particularly basic to be constantly trained to be an updated professional. My advice is to keep training every year. This will ensure you not to lost track of the sector development
